Mario Chavez has lived in Shreveport for 28 years with the exception of a few breaks. Those breaks include an enlistment into the United States Army for formal training in Fort Benning, Georgia. He also received advanced individual training for satellite communication and GPS tracking systems at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Mario has served our state proudly in countless humanitarian missions to include Hurricanes Lily, Katrina, Rita and Gustov. He was also deployed to Iraq as a corporal and communications specialist. Mario returned as a Sergeant due to voluntarily logging over 10 thousands miles while driving the front gun ship of a convoy to pull security for fellow soldiers. Sergeant Chavez was nominated as soldier of the year to represent the 165th Quarter Master Battalion and also held the position of Team leader for the Northwest Louisiana honor Guard. He has also personally performed over 100 military funeral honors for fallen veterans. After 12 years, Mario hung up his combat boots and focused on his business. He is the owner of a merchant service sales office and currently handles a portfolio of over 3000 clients that he personally started from 1 customer. Mario currently manages a pipeline of about 700 million per year within his Shreveport sales office. After three years of being a civilian, Mario felt the calling to serve again and decided it was time to make a difference. He ran for public office and was elected as Caddo Parish’s first Latino Commissioner. He is currently serving his second term as District 10 Caddo Parish Commissioner. Mario still holds a big place in his heart for the Youth Challenge Program and has mentored 9 young men through the program. He resides in Shreveport, Louisiana where he serves District 10 (Southern Hills) and raises his three boys with his wife, Megan Chavez.
