ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS BACK UP your system… Philip’s #1 Rule!
That’s one of the easiest things to do to save yourself a lot of heartache should something happen. Carbonite takes care of it automatically for you!

WATCH OUT FOR THE CRYPTOWALL VIRUS!
Once it hits a machine and triggers, it encrypts your data file and you can’t get it back. It’s the worst thing he’s sees virus wise. Luckily, he hasn’t seen it effect QuickBooks files yet but it’s just a matter of time. Make sure you are routinely sweeping and scanning your machines.

Because Windows 10 has now been out for a while, it may automatically download on your machine before you know it. Philip can help you avoid that installation all together, at least until Microsoft figures out other ways to make it automatically install. He feels it’s a decent operating system but it doesn’t run older programs well so advises to stay away. If it’s on your computer already, it works with your older programs and you like it, keep it.

You’re questions answered…

  • Is it okay to run computers 24/7? Yes: Continually cooling down and heating up, he feels, can cause damage.
  • Do you offer maintenance programs: Yes: Philip can come in periodically and assess your computers, install updates, make sure the antivirus programs are working properly, sweep your computer with spyware removal tools, etc.
  • What Antivirus Software do you recommend? AVG is what he uses most often. He cautions not to load more than one on your system as they’ll tend to fight one another.
  • Do you work on MAC’s? Yes but not often as they aren’t as susceptible to viruses, etc as PC’s. He feels like that will be changing in the near future.
