Ralph Yelverton has lived in our area since he was a 2 or 3 years old and started working at the young age of 15 when he took a job before and after school. Ralph specializes in residential to light commercial/light industrial and admits, he enjoys residential more than the rest. About 20% of his business is light commercial. He can do anything from shutters to on room to the complete home/business and remodeling jobs, inside and out. We working in homes built before the 50’s, he’s a bit more worried about lead paint. The Lead Law dictates that they have to check for it and if found on a project (during or after) a contractors can be fined $37,000 for each offense found, not project, each offense inside that project. When found, there are treatments you can do to encapsulate it but again, if your home was built within the last 60 years or so, you probably don’t have to worry about it. If any at all, it’s very little. He doesn’t advise buying an over the counter lead paint test as they often have false positives. Contact a reputable contractor like himself to do the testing. The are constantly new and changing products on the market. One of the newest is DTM which is direct to metal that stops rust. There is also now a latex and water borne enamel that holds up and won’t yellow. Ralph can do a lot with Shellac and wax finishes to give and old world look and is excited about the new 100% water based paints that go over oil.

Some of the finishes he does are the ever popular pickle finish, faux and plaster finishes as well as harlequins and murals, even painted walls that look like wallpaper. He’s also done a barreled ceiling to look like it was tiled because tiles aren’t made to go on ceilings.

Regardless of the project, small or large, Yelverton can do the job right. Make sure whomever you use, they are reputable and fully licensed.
