Randy and Henrietta Bowers have been married now for 36 years and are so proud to have their two sons in the family business. Randy had been in the industry for 20 years when the company he was working for made some unfavorable changes and he decided it was time for him to exit stage left. He founded SMS Distributions seven years ago now and has seen a tremendous growth. 2 1/2 years ago, Gator came up for sale and since they had been unsuccessfully competing against them with their own detail products, decided to buy the company.
Gator was founded in 1985 by a gentleman that was selling detail supplies out of his vehicle. It was a superior product then and remains so to this day. Since attaining, they’ve started a website, which now accounts for about 10% of their sales both domestically and internationally, added delivery trucks on a regular route and most recently, added what they refer to basically as a store on wheels for their customers to come in and shop. That addition alone accounts for an additional 9% of their sales. They also partnered with Italian Tool Company Rupus, which completely changed the industry five years ago when they came out with Bigfoot. This polisher allows you to cut through the scratches while polishing the paint. Gator became a distributor
for them and have had great success with that particular product, among others.
